Husband Samarth Singh sent to 7-day police remand in Twisha Sharma death case; cops say he’s not cooperating

BHOPAL: Police on Saturday secured a seven-day remand of Samarth Singh, the prime accused in the death case of his wife, Twisha Sharma, after producing him before a court in Bhopal around 3 pm following his arrest from Jabalpur.

During the hearing, Sanjay Kumar informed the court that the accused was not cooperating with the investigation and sought custodial interrogation for seven days. The court subsequently granted the police remand.



Earlier, Samarth underwent a medical examination after being brought from Katara Hills Police Station before being presented in court.



Addressing a press conference, Sanjay Kumar said Samarth Singh had attempted to surrender before a court in Jabalpur, but police took him into custody after the court refused to permit the surrender.

“He had come to the court in Jabalpur to surrender, but the court refused to let him surrender. Meanwhile, my team was also there. Then, my team took him into custody with the help of the Jabalpur police team,” Kumar said.

The Commissioner added that investigators would question the accused in detail and warned that action would be taken against anyone found to have sheltered him while he was absconding.

Police also reiterated that three notices had been served to Giribala Singh, Samarth Singh’s mother and a co-accused in the case, despite her denial of having received them.

“We’ve issued three notices to her. Now she is denying it, that’s a different matter. But we served notices. She is accused of heinous offences,” Kumar said, adding that police had already approached the court seeking cancellation of her anticipatory bail.

Twisha Sharma, a resident of Noida who married Samarth Singh in December 2025, died on May 12. Her family has accused her husband and in-laws of mental torture and dowry harassment, allegations that led the Madhya Pradesh government to recommend a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the matter.
