Hoshangabad election results 2024 live updates: BJP's Darshan Singh Choudhary wins
NEW DELHI: Hoshangabad, a parliamentary constituency situated in Madhya Pradesh, has a rich historical and agricultural background. Named after Hoshang Shah Gauri, the city, originally known as Narmadapuram, was established in the early 15th century. It is strategically located on the banks of the Narmada River and is a significant producer of soybeans. The region’s primary occupation is agriculture. The constituency comprises eight assembly segments: Narsinghpur, Tendukheda, Gadarwara, Seoni-Malwa, Narmadapuram, Sohagpur, Pipariya, and Udaipura.
For the 2024 elections, which took place on April 26, the voter turnout was recorded at 67.21%. The BJP has fielded Darshan Singh Chaudhary, a farmer leader, while the Congress has put forward Sanjay Sharma as its candidate. Sanjay Sharma, who previously represented Tendukheda in the Assembly on a BJP ticket, switched allegiance to the Congress in 2019. Despite his efforts, he was defeated in the 2023 assembly elections by BJP's Vishwanath Singh Patel by about 15,000 votes.

Darshan Singh Choudhary of the Bharatiya Janata Party emerged victorious, securing 812147 votes, which is 431696 more than the runner-up. Sanjay Sharma Sanju Bhaiya of the Indian National Congress came in second place with 380451 votes, trailing the winner by 431696 votes.
Ramgovind Baruaa of the Bahujan Samaj Party secured the third position with 15387 votes, which is 796760 votes less than the winner. Pandit Divyendra Brijmohan Dubey Advocate of the Bharatiya Yuva Jan Ekta Party received 6168 votes, placing him 805979 votes behind the winner. Rakesh Ramprasad Ricky, an independent candidate, obtained 5079 votes, which is 807068 votes less than the winner.
Sarjerao Sahare, another independent candidate, secured 4493 votes, trailing the winner by 807654 votes. Patrakar Tilak Jatav, an independent candidate, received 2260 votes, which is 809887 votes less than the winner. Yuvraj Gavade, also an independent candidate, obtained 2215 votes, placing him 809932 votes behind the winner. Jyoti Suresh Jhariya, an independent candidate, secured 2046 votes, which is 810101 votes less than the winner.
Makhan Singh Lodhi of the Bhartiya Shakti Chetna Party received 1657 votes, trailing the winner by 810490 votes. Mukesh Yadav, an independent candidate, obtained 1588 votes, which is 810559 votes less than the winner. Pandit Brajesh Khemariya, another independent candidate, secured 1260 votes, placing him 810887 votes behind the winner. The "None of the Above" option received 14941 votes, which is 797206 votes less than the winner.
In the 2019 general elections, BJP’s Uday Pratap Singh retained the seat for the third time, securing 877,927 votes, which accounted for 69.35% of the vote share. Congress's Shailendra Diwan came in second with 324,245 votes (25.61%), and the Bahujan Samaj Party's M.P. Choudhary received 15,364 votes (1.21%). This marked a significant victory for the BJP, consolidating its stronghold in the constituency.
In the 2014 elections, Uday Pratap Singh of the BJP defeated Congress's Devendra Patel by a significant margin. Singh received 669,128 votes (64.89%), while Patel managed to secure 279,168 votes (27.07%). Other contenders, such as the AAP's Maya Vishwakarma, garnered 17,837 votes (1.73%), and the BSP's Pradeep Ahirwar received 14,154 votes (1.37%).
