MHOW: In a suspected honour killing, a 17-year-old girl was forced to drink pesticide and her throat was slit by a cousin, at the instance of her father, because she refused to end her relationship with a boy from another caste, police in MP’s Dhar said on Saturday.
The girl’s body was found beside Satghata Nullah near the tourist destination of Mandu, about 90km from
Indore
, on February 7. For the first five days, police struggled to identify the victim. Then, informers tipped them off that a schoolgirl was missing from missing from Patliyapura village, about 25km from where the body was found.
Police met the family, asked them why they hadn’t filed a missing person’s report, and took back a picture of the missing girl. It matched with the murder victim and she was identified as Roshni, a Class 12 student.
During investigation, police found that her family was furious with her for having a relationship with a boy from a different caste in the same village. The girl was a Bhil, and the boy is from Bhilala community. He, too, is a minor.

broke down during interrogation and confessed that he conspired to kill her. He asked Roshni’s cousin Mukesh and his friend Prithvi to murder her and dispose the body after she refused to break up with the boy,” said Dhar SP
Aditya Pratap Singh.
Minor was fed with pesticide
On February 6, Mukesh and Prithvi took Roshni to Mandu in a car on the pretext of sightseeing. While returning, they force-fed her pesticides, rendering her unconscious, the SP said.
“They stuffed the minor girl in the boot of the car and drove towards Satghata Nullah, where Mukesh slit her throat with a knife. The body was dumped on the roadside,” he added.
Police arrested all three on Friday. They were produced in court on Saturday and remanded in jail.
