Homeopathy doctor held for ‘religious conversion’ bid in Jabalpur
Jabalpur: A homeopathy doctor was arrested for allegedly pressurising a minor girl for religious conversion in Jabalpur district.After getting a complaint, police on Thursday registered a case against the doctor under various sections of the MP Religious Freedom Act, 2021.Additional superintendent of police Suryakant Sharma said Khalid Khan was running a homeopathy clinic under the Tilwara Ghat police station area.A minor girl from the area was receiving treatment from him. As per the complaint, under the pretence of treatment, the doctor began to psychologically pressure her to convert.Moreover, the doctor obtained the girl's phone number and started to influence her religiously over the phone.He also offered various inducements for conversion, said the complaint. When the girl's family became aware of the situation, they informed police about the incident.Under the Freedom of Religion Act 2021, convicts can be jailed for up to 10 years and fined up to Rs 1 lakh. The law covers mass conversions as well.
