sweet
shops closed due to lockdown, Bhopalites prepared sweets at home for Rakshabandhan to celebrate the big day with their siblings relying on their own kitchens to ensure safety.
Many also sought help from their neighbourhood friends, home-chefs and bakers to make some new delicacies as sweet shops stayed closed.
“I only know how to make some basic food, not the delicacies. So I asked a neighbourhood aunt to help me make laddoos for Rakshabandhan as the market was closed," Shalini Awashthi, a home-maker said.
A counselor, Geetanjali Thakur helped her friends whip up some goodies. “A few colony friends asked me to help them with halwas, home-made cakes and barfis as everything nearby is closed. It was fun,” she said. Nilisha Agrawal, a baker at Peer gate said she has been receiving orders for Indianflavour cakes, as many people wanted something traditional for the occasion. “I also had requests from people to share a few easy recipes,” said Agrawal. Kanchan Yagyawani, who runs a home based cloud-kitchen added that along with sweets, she had also received orders for snacks. “I was flooded with orders from locals, especially those who could come by from a shorter distance to collect the goods,” said Yagyawani.
