Hit by speeding bike, retd BHEL employee dies in Arera Hills, wife injured

Bhopal: A tragic road accident near the Birla Mandir in Arera Hills claimed life of a 63-year-old retired BHEL employee after a speeding bike allegedly rammed into the scooter he was riding with his wife. The incident occurred on May 23, and he succumbed to his injuries after five days of treatment. His wife survived the incident. Arera Hills police registered a case against the unidentified bike-borne youths, who hit him and fled the spot.According to Arera Hills Police, deceased Pawan Chaurasia, a resident of Ashok Vihar Colony in Ashoka Garden, retired from BHEL two-and-half-years ago. He lived with his wife, Gomti, as the couple had no children. On the day of the accident, the couple visited Birla Mandir and were heading toward the parking area on their scooter when the speeding bike coming from the TT Nagar side crashed into them from behind.Chaurasia sustained critical head injuries and was admitted to the hospital, where he died on Wednesday morning. His wife received injuries and was discharged after initial treatment.Eyewitnesses informed police that the bike riders were also injured in the collision but managed to flee the scene with their bike. Police registered a case and initiated an investigation to identify and arrest the absconding riders. After a post-mortem examination, Chaurasia's body was handed over to the family.
