High court defers hearing in helmet case to Feb 19

Bhopal/Jabalpur: A division bench of MP high court granted time to the state government till Feb 19 to present a reply on what strategy has been drawn to ensure compliance of traffic rules at the meeting chaired by chief secretary of the state. In a hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking strict enforcement of traffic rules by riders including compulsory helmet for two-wheeler, seat belt for passenger vehicle riders and high security registration plates (HSRP) on vehicles, the court was informed that the state chief secretary had convened a meeting to work out a strategy to strictly enforce traffic laws. The court had sought details of what transpired in the meeting. When the case came up for hearing on Thursday, counsel for the state government requested for more time to file a reply, which the court conceded and deferred hearing of the case to Feb 19.
