HC defers hearing on OBC quota hike pleas till May 4

Bhopal/Jabalpur: A division bench of MP high court seized of a bunch of petitions for and against hike in OBC quota in the state government jobs and admissions in its educational institutions to 27% deferred hearing in the case till May 4 after it was informed that a special leave petition (SLP) has been filed in the supreme court seeking transfer of all the petitions relating to hike in OBC quota to the apex court.
After the division bench of Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice D D Bansal decided to hear the petitions on OBC quota on a day-to-day basis, counsel representing an organisation favouring the hike in OBC quota in the case Udai Kumar had met the chief justice demanding constitution of another bench to hear the petitions on OBC quota hike as the bench of Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice D D Bansal had refused to hear the petitions on the issue by an order on August 16, 2022.
The bench of Justice Nagu and Justice Bansal was constituted following the retirement of Justice Virender Singh. The chief justice had asked the counsel to present an application before the registrar and hearing in the case was deferred to April 24. When the matter came up for hearing on Monday, the court was informed about the SLP filed in the supreme court seeking deferment of hearing in the case following which the court suspended hearing in the case to May 5.
