Gwalior: Now, woman cries son's murder at de-addiction centre
Bhopal: Three days after a raid blew lid off obnoxious 'treatment' regimen in illegal de-addiction centre in Gwalior, a woman from neighbouring district of Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh alleged that centre workers murdered her son. Raids at the de-addiction centre on Friday unearthed horror chamber. A team of officials learned that alcohol and drug addicts were hung upside down and brutally beaten. Some of them were tied to chair and thrashed.
Gita Pathak, a resident of Sipri Bazar locality of Jhansi in UP, reached Gwalior on Monday and alleged that her son "Sachin Pathak was admitted to the centre in April 9 this year and three days later the centre informed that her son Sachin was critical."
"They came to Jhansi with critically injured Sachin and left him at home. He died the same day," she told police. Those responsible for her son's murder should be punished, she demanded.
After his marriage, his son became an alcoholic. Her daughter-in-law admitted him to the centre where he was tortured, she said. Gita told police the raid on the centre last week only proved addicts were meted out ill treatment.
Pathak demanded that MP Police should register a complaint under section of murder against those who are running the centre.
Station house officer of Bahodapur police station in Gwalior told media, "A case related to murder of Gita's son was already being investigated by Sipri Bazar police station in Jhansi."
After the raid on, Soham deaddiction centre on June 24, the police arrested five persons against whom an FIR was lodged by the officials of social justice department on June 25.
SP Harinarayanchari Mishra said, "Cases were registered against five accused for wrongful confinement and assaulting addicts. Separate cases were registered against them for assaulting addicts after illegal confinement."
