BHOPAL: One of the girls who sustained injuries after being hit by a speeding dial-100 SUV of city police on October 18, died on Tuesday. SUV was driven in the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) corridor. Driver of the SUV has been arrested while a head constable present in the vehicle at the time of incident has been suspended.
A case was registered at Bairagarh police station.
Driver left the vehicle and injured girls on the spot. Passers-by rushed the injured girls to a hospital. SUV hit girls when they were crossing the road on a two-wheeler. Police said girls have been identified as Saloni, a resident of Lal Ghati area and Vinita Lalchandani, a resident of Bairagarh.
They were crossing the road near Sant Hirdaram Kutiya when the speeding SUV knocked them. Vinita Lalchandani, 16, a school student succumbed to her injuries. Police said driver of dial-100 vehicle Jagdish Mishra was arrested while head constable, Hukum Pal Singh has been suspended.
Head constable was suspended since he allowed driver to ply on BRTS corridor, which is restricted for only BRTS buses and secondly he did not stop the driver from over speeding that led to the incident.
There were also unconfirmed reports that vehicle was driven by the cop and not its driver, but cops deny it.
Dial-100 is a pilot project of state police.
