Garbage dumping sparks Boat Club fire?
Bhopal: A major fire incident was narrowly averted at the Boat Club on Monday when flames broke out along the ridge around noon. The sudden blaze sparked panic among and smoke could be seen from VIP road side, prompting an immediate response from the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC). Within minutes, five fire tenders were rushed to the site, with teams strategically deployed to tackle the flames from both Shyamla Hills and the lower end of the Boat Club, said BMC fire officer Saurabh Patel. Firefighters worked for around four hours to contain the blaze, preventing damage to the popular recreational spot and safeguarding the Ramsar site's fragile ecosystem in the city.Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have been triggered by garbage dumped in the vicinity of the Ramsar site, a protected wetland area.Eyewitness reports indicate the fire threatened to spread quickly due to the dry vegetation and windy conditions, but coordinated efforts ensured the situation was brought under control before it could escalate into a larger disaster. A similar incident was reported earlier in 2022 around the same area.
