Bhopal: State Congress vice-president
Mahendra Singh Chouhan on Saturday alleged that thousands of fraudulent names have been added in the electoral list in Narela assembly constituency. Chouhan alleged that the fake names have been added by an Election Commission officer under pressure from the minister for medical education Vishwas Sarang.
Sarang is three times MLA from the constituency.
In the 2018 assembly election, Mahendra Singh Chouhan was pitted against the minister and lost the polls by 23,151 votes.
Addressing a presser at the PCC office, Chouhan said that the fake names list was finalized at the residence of the minister in connivance with an election officer identified as
Manoj Verma. The fake names are spread throughout the 17 wards of Narela assembly constituency.
The state BJP, however, dismissed the charges.
Party senior spokesman Dr Hitesh Vajpayee said, “All the charges are unsubstantialed and politically motivated which we reject outright. If the Congress has issues with the electoral list, they should go to the EC.” TNN
