Bhopal: A second-year engineering student at JP University in Raghogarh, Guna, died by suicide on Friday morning.
Police identified him as Vaibhav Verma, a 22-year-old from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, who was studying BE-computer science. He was found dead by the hostel warden.
A note found on Vaibhav's laptop revealed that he was struggling with financial burdens and was unable to repay money borrowed from a friend. His mobile phone was found on the fifth floor of the hostel.
However, Vaibhav's mother alleges that he was murdered. Police have found a Rs 25,000 transaction from Vaibhav's account and are trying to identify the recipient.
The suicide note, addressed to his friend Anuj, expresses remorse and guilt. Vaibhav wrote about being cheated out of Rs 20,000 and his inability to repay a ₹15,000 loan.
Vaibhav's roommate reported that they had studied together until 2am on Friday. He described Vaibhav as being in good spirits, laughing and talking with everyone, and showing no signs of distress. They had even made plans to go out for a meal during the weekend.
