Elderly woman critically injured in hyena attack in Singrauli village

Bhopal: A 65-year-old woman was seriously injured after being attacked by a hyena in Amiliya village of Singrauli district on Saturday morning. The attack left the woman's palm hanging from the wrist. She is undergoing treatment at the district hospital-cum-trauma centre, where her condition is reported to be critical.According to police, the woman, identified as Mankumari, wife of Singhlal Vishwakarma, had gone towards a forested area near her home when the animal allegedly pounced on her, causing multiple injuries. Her palm was nearly severed and left hanging from the wrist. Villagers rushed to the spot after hearing her screams and managed to drive the hyena away before shifting her to hospital. "The woman has sustained injuries due to a hyena attack and her treatment is going on," district forest officer Akhil Bansal told TOI.
Bandhora police outpost in-charge ML Bansal said, "The injured woman has been identified as Mankumari wife of Singhlal Vishwakarma, 65, her treatment is going on." A local villager, Awadhesh Prasad Sahu, told TOI, "The incident took place on Saturday morning, the injured woman is 65-year-old she was going towards the forest when the incident took place. The hyena attacked her and injured her in such a way that her palm remained hanging from the wrist as if it had been completely broken. Only a small portion remained attached. The animal was shooed away by villagers when they heard the cries. Seeing bears and hyenas is common here in our village. There have been bear attacks in the past too." Forest and police teams are monitoring the area amid concerns over frequent movement of wild animals near the village.
