Dewas cracker factory blast toll rises to 8 as 2 more workers die during treatment
Indore: Two more workers injured in the May 14 firecracker factory blast in Dewas district’s Tonk Kalan area died during treatment at Indore’s MY Hospital early on Saturday, taking the death toll in the tragedy to eight.
Hospital superintendent Ashok Yadav said Ajay Kumar and Niranjan succumbed during treatment on Saturday morning.
Ajay Kumar, 27, son of Nunu Paswan and a resident of Bhawanipur village in Bihar’s Araria district, had sustained severe burn injuries in the blast and was initially admitted to the district hospital in Dewas before being referred to MY Hospital.
Similarly, Niranjan, 30, son of Hiralal and a resident of Purniya village in Dewas district, also succumbed to burn injuries during treatment at MY Hospital early on Saturday.
Of the four victims of the Dewas blast who were admitted at MY Hospital, only one is alive.
While Ram succumbed on Monday, Ajay and Niranjan died on Saturday. Doctors said both had sustained critical burn injuries and their condition remained extremely serious throughout treatment with over 80% burns leaving doctors with limited chances of recovery despite intensive care.
The survivor, Vishal, 25, was brought in the neurosurgery department a day later, after he complained of vomiting and dizziness.
Doctors have been closely monitoring his condition and are expected to discharge soon.
Investigations into the incident are on.
