“We hardly get to see such a peaceful atmosphere in other cities. Here in Bhopal, the scenic locations give me peace of mind,” says Shakti, who emerged as a popular dancer after she won a dance reality TV show.

She is now set to play the role of a mentor in Dance Plus Season 2, that goes on air from July 2. “The show’s first season got a tremendous response from viewers and winning the best dance reality show award proves that the show is a class apart. Last year, we saw some really amazing performances and during the auditions this year, we were looking for performances that were better than those of the first season. I am sure this season too will have some unique performances. Though I don’t have any in my team, I am happy there are many female contestants on the show this season,” she adds.
Though Shakti will be mentoring, she feels that being a part of reality shows isn’t easy. “As a contestant, I didn’t know most of the dance forms the way I knew Bharatnatyam. I had to learn new dance forms with just two-three days’ practice and present it to an audience, which was quite challenging. But the show gave me a good platform to explore dance forms. Now I am also into contemporary ballet,” shares Shakti.
This time, the show will also be roping in dancer- choreographer, Punit Pathak, who will mentor dancers in the place of Sumeet Nagdev, who was seen on the show’s previous season. On competing with a new mentor, Shakti says, “It’s going to be a fun experience and all of us have geared up for some good choreography. This time, my focus will be to take the trophy home and give the nation the next dancing sensation.”
But besides the mentoring, what else is keeping her busy? “I am going to debut in a film produced by Remo D’souza. It’s a film based on Latin ballroom dancing. Since I have learnt Bharatnatyam and have been pursuing contemporary dance for a few years now, I have been constantly working on the Latin dance form. Being a dance-oriented film, it’s giving me enough exposure to go ahead with my passion for dance. I had many offers but I wanted to take up something that would help me stay connected with dance,” shares the dancer who has choreographed Katrina Kaif and wants to work with other Bollywood celebs too. “I just love Madhuri Dixit. Her presence fills me with positive energy. I have seen her dancing and learnt a lot from her. I would consider myself fortunate if I get to work with her. I would also love to choreograph Hrithik Roshan sometime.”
