BHOPAL: Commonwealth 2022 medallists, Tulika Maan and Vijay Kumar strongly felt that Indian coaches are as good as foreign coaches. They believed that Indian coaches are producing world-class players and have the competence to make them win medals in the Olympics too. Both received a warm welcome at Bhopal’s SAI centre on Wednesday from friends and supporters after a successful Commonwealth Games 2022 campaign. Tulika won silver while Vijay grabbed the bronze medal.
Tulika claimed the silver medal in the final of the women's +78 kg category after suffering a defeat against Scotland's Sarah Adlington in the final at the CWG while Vijay Kumar Yadav won a bronze medal in the judo men's- 60kg final at the Commonwealth Games.
Talking to TOI, both medallists echoed, “We have been training under Indian coaches and results are infront of everyone. We have capable coaches.” They have given all credit to the SAI facilities for the excellent facilities. “SAI has supported us a lot,” Tulka added. Vijay marked the STC Bhopal centre as the best centre for judo in the country. “Whether it is climate, diet or the infrastructure, everything here is perfect for a judo player,” he said.
Their coach Arjuna awardee Yashpal said, “Both have the potential to win medals in Asian Games and Olympics. We have high hopes from them.” Regional director, SAI Bhopal, Satyajit Sankrit said, “Our job is to provide facilities. We will keep doing the same in the future also. They have made all of us proud.”
