BHOPAL: A masked gunman barged into a police station and shot a head constable in the chest in MP's Satna district in the early hours of Tuesday.
It's not known what triggered the attack. The injured policeman, 36-year-old Prince Garg, was grievously injured and is under treatment at
Rewa District Hospital.
Police have identified a suspect but are yet to track him down. Satna SP Ashutosh Gupta has announced a reward of Rs 30,000 for the arrest of the accused.
Prince was sleeping in the barracks of Jaitwara police station, around 25km from Satna district headquarters and 550km from Bhopal, when the gunman burst in some time after midnight. He shot the off-duty cop at point-blank range and fled unchallenged.

"The accused was identified as 20-year-old Adarsh alias Acchu Sharma. He is of a criminal nature, and his parents have disowned him. He even thrashed his grandmother some time ago and tried to set his own house on fire. We are hopeful of arresting him soon," SP Gupta told TOI, adding that a country-made weapon was used in the attack.
Twelve teams are conducting raids to nab the suspect, the SP said. "The exact reason for the incident is not yet clear. The injured head constable is stable and under observation," he added.
The lone connection investigators have found so far is that head constable Prince had retrieved a motorcycle from Acchu that he had taken from a friend and was refusing to return. The friend had approached police, who ensured the motorcycle was returned to its owner. Police suspect Acchu held a grudge against Prince because of this. Things will be clear after we question the suspect, said an officer.
