BHOPAL: The rate of conviction in the cases related to crime against dalits and tribals was 35.1 per cent and 33.2 per cent in Madhya Pradesh which is highest in the country, state police headquarters officials said here quoting figures available with them.
The national conviction rate was 35 per cent and 25 per cent in regard to the case against dalits and tribals respectively, they said.
The conviction rate in cases of crimes against scheduled castes is 3.9 per cent in Maharashtra, 7.9 per cent in Orissa, 9.7 per cent in Kerala, 11.5 per cent in
Bihar, 14.3 per cent in Assam and 15 per cent in Andhra Pradesh, they added.
Similarly, the conviction rate in cases of crimes against scheduled tribes is 7.3 per cent in Andhra Pradesh, 20.9 per cent in Orissa, 25.5 per cent in Jharkhand, 12.2 per cent in Bihar, 5.1 per cent in Karnataka and 3.7 per cent in Maharashtra, they said.
MP government is prompt in putting up challans in the court in cases of crime against weaker sections of society and as a result of this, cases against dalits and tribes have come down by 0.43 per cent and 2.87 per cent respectively in 2011 in comparison to its previous year, officials said.
