Bhopal: In a stunning move, chief minister Kamal Nath on Saturday announced that party veteran Digvijaya Singh would contest the Bhopal

Lok Sabha

seat - sending BJP back to the drawing board and setting the stage for all of

Madhya Pradesh

for the 2019 Parliamentary election.

"I had suggested three constituencies to

Digvijaya

Singh - Bhopal, Jabalpur and Indore. But he asked me to take the decision," Nath, who is also the PCC chief, said on Saturday. "Digvijaya Singh has been the state's chief minister and state Congress president for years so I had argued that his candidature from Rajgarh won't be suitable for him. The Congress central election committee, thereafter, decided that he will contest from Bhopal," he added.

"Aap logon ko bhi accha candidate mila hai Bhopal mein (You people have also got a good candidate for Bhopal)," Nath remarked, laughing. Digvijaya was in Indore when mediapersons asked him about being fielded from Bhopal. ""A decision on it will be taken by the party election committee. I have heard that Kamal Nath ji has made such a statement. He may be knowing about it. I am not aware of this," the former CM said.

"My first preference is Rajgarh parliamentary seat from where I hail and from where I am a voter. But even after this, I have told my party president and pradesh party president and chief minister that I am ready to contest polls wherever the party wishes me to do so," Singh said in Indore.
