Congress loan waiver promise is a farce: Narendra Modi
JHABUA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said Congress makes promises to waive farm loans to garner votes as in case of Karnataka, but goes back on its words soon after it gains power.
Four months ago, Congress promised waiver of farm loans and garnered votes. Now when the farmers are protesting over their plight, the Karnataka chief minister calls them goons, Modi said, addressing a poll rally in tribal dominated Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh.
“The farmers are being sent warrants and put in jails,” he alleged.
Modi’s statements comes in the backdrop of AICC president Rahul Gandhi promising to waive off farm loans in Madhya Pradesh within 10 days of Congress being voted to power in the state.
The prime minister claimed that Congress had made similar promises in 2009 general elections. It had promised to waive loans to the tune of Rs 6 lakh core, but loans worth barely Rs 60,000 crore were waived.
“These things did not come to the public notice because when the party won elections in 2009, their ‘raj darbaris’ stopped talking. And at that time coal scam, 2G scam, helicopter scam, submarine scam, common wealth games scam were in discussion. Because of these scams, the fraud they did with the farmers did not come to light,” Modi said.
He also said that the loans which were waived were of people who did not deserve the loan waiver. Modi was campaigning in Jhabua in favour of ten MLA candidates of the area, in which he highlighted the work done by BJP in their 15 year tenure in state.
