City students channel their musical dreams

Music on their minds

Music is a universal language, or so they say, and it binds everyone. For a city like Bhopal, that identifies largely with this saying, courtesy its rich cultural scene, music is definitely a binding factor, especially among the younger generation.
The city has a diverse student population and their hobbies and interests are varied as well. However, what a few of these students are doing is that they are channeling their passion in the right direction. We met a few young, budding musicians of the city who study during their college time and compose music in their spare time everyday. While some of them have released solo songs, others are collaborating on big projects.

MUSIC V/S STUDIES. NO COMPROMISE THERE!
Music has been a part of their life since childhood for some people.

Ankita Dubey

is one such person. The youngster, who is currently pursuing LLB from Jagran Lakecity University, practices music soon after her college hours end. “I am into singing since I was five. I cannot afford to compromise on either music or my studies. So, I manage my time well. I have composed around four songs that will release soon. Since I don't have a studio of my own, I work with an academy. We have done projects for the Madhya Pradesh chief minister as well,” she says.

‘MUSIC IS MY FIRST LOVE’

Palash Jha, a commerce student, has collaborated with international labels for his music compositions and also has a recording studio at home where he works after college hours. “My interest has always been in music. Even during exams, I study for a few hours, while the rest of my time is dedicated to music. I produce beats, write songs and rap as well. After my college gets over, I plan to become a full-time musician,” he says.

DON’T WAIT FOR THE ‘RIGHT AGE
Many parents feel that their kids can make decisions after they ‘grow up’. However,

Derick Vineet Nathaniel

did not wait for the ‘right age’ or ‘right time’. He started his musical career as soon as he entered college. Recently, he released his first debut single called Dust and Ashes which has become quite popular. “Music has always been close to me and being a part of the church choir helped me a lot. I have always tried to balance my college and work. But I believe it's better to start working early as it gives you clarity and focus,” he says.

NO STOPPING THIS RAPPER

Other than music composers, the city also has rappers who have been making the city proud. Amaan Khan, a student of English literature, has been a participant on reality shows and has also opened shows for singers like Arjun Kanungo, Bassjackers, Nikhil Chinappa, and others. He started rapping in his school days and has released four songs till date. “Rapping wasn’t so popular when I started out. Hence, it was difficult to convince my parents. Thankfully, by the time I reached college, people were aware about the form. I have done many shows and it becomes a bit hectic with college, but I don’t want to give up on either studies or music,” says Amaan.
