BHOPAL: Tears rolled down cheeks of Mukesh Goyal as name of his nephew Arpit Goyal was announced during 11th convocation of Maulana Azad National Institute Technology (MANIT), here on Thursday.
Arpit, 23, a computer science engineer had died of blood cancer on October 11 this year. Resident of Indore, Arpit joined MANIT in 2010 after completing his plus-two level studies from Agrawal Public School, Indore.

On completion of graduation, he was selected for a package of Rs 8 lakh per annum in Pune-based software company.
"But fate has willed it otherwise. It all began with mild fever after working in company for one month. After some tests, blood cancer was detected on September 11. He was taken to Mumbai for treatment but passed away within a month. I wish he was here."
There were big smiles on the faces of students receiving degree during the 11th convocation of Maulana Azad National Institute Technology (MANIT) organised on the campus on Thursday. But also present in the gathering was a family with moist eyes.

When the name of Arpit Goyal was announced, his uncle Mukesh Goyal broke down. Tears rolled down from his cheek as he received the degree. Arpit, 23, a computer science engineer, had died of blood cancer on October 11, earlier this year.
Resident of Indore, Arpit joined MANIT in 2010 after completing passing out from Agrawal Public School, Indore.
After completing his graduation in June earlier this year, Arpit was selected on a package of Rs 8 lakh per annum in Pune based software-company.

" It all started with fever after working in the company for around one month. Following some tests ,blood cancer was detected on September 11. He was immediately rushed to Mumbai but he passed away on October 11," Mukesh said.
In all, 1,400 students were awarded degrees. Overall topper Divya Shanmughan could not receive degree as she was not present. There were a couple of students, who were also not given degrees as they did not register for the function.
Eminent scientist and Padam Bhushan A Sivathanu Pillai was the chief guest. He was former chief controller of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). In his address he said, "Technical institutes should give more emphasis on research work."
MANIT Professor chairman G K Mehta and MANIT director Appukuttan K K were among others present.
