BHOPAL: Alok Sharma of the BJP is set be Bhopal's next Mayor. After 15 rounds of vote counting he is leading by 40,000 votes, as per unofficial figures by counting agents.
Official declaration after 7 rounds of vote counting standa at — Alok Sharma got 2,20,447 votes. His nearest rival Congress's Kailash Mishra gained 1,82,755 votes.
Maintaining his lead from the start of counting, BJP supporters are in jubilant mood.
"My performance is attributed to BJP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and everyone in the party," said Sharma, who also gained some 4,000 votes through postal ballot.
Mishra was however not seen around the Old Bhopal jail campus where counting began at 9am.
If Mayoral poll results are an indication, it would be after nearly two decades that a single party would hold majority in Bhopal Municipal Corporation council and the Mayors seat as well.
