200
Bhopal: BJP MLA from Sagar, Shailendra Jain, along with his supporters vandalised a liquor shop ahata, a room attached with it for drinking, on Sunday.

Jain later called up the excise department officials and told them to shut down the ahata as there is public resentment against it. He said he would officially write a letter to close down it in 15 days. He led a group of his supporters and reached the liquor shop at Madhukar ward in the evening. They barged the liquor room, smashed the furniture and broke the glasses.

He said the room for consumption of liquor was being run illegally. Later he told reporters, "There was resentment among the people, especially among the women of the area, against the shop. Even the district administration had issued directives to close down such shops creating nuisance for the public." He said, "Whenever I asked the excise department officials they would tell me that the ahata is closed down. So I decided to actually close it down. Women here were really troubled." No one in the district administration was willing to comment on the issue.
