Primary and active membership accounts will be completed by Nov 10, after which elections will take place for the next BJP national president.
The BJP holds its membership drive once every six years, when even old members have to take re-membership. This time, however, the delay by three years is because of the Covid crisis that struck in 2019. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the first to take the party's membership on Sept 1 from BJP national president JP Nadda. Here, chief minister Mohan Yadav will be given membership by VD Sharma.
"On Wednesday, we will brainstorm on what we are calling the Sangathan Parv (organisational festival) or the membership drive. In Madhya Pradesh, the state party unit will hold its membership drive across 11,000 Shakti Kendras and 64,871 booths," state BJP president VD Sharma told reporters on Tuesday. Presently, the state BJP has 44 lakh active members and 95 lakh primary members.
The membership drive workshop headed by JP Nadda and Union home minister Amit Shah for national-level office-bearers was held in Delhi on Aug 17 and 18. State BJP president VD Sharma and state party organisational general secretary Hitanand Sharma were present in that two-day national workshop.
"Following this, a state-level workshop is being organised on Wednesday which will be attended by office-bearers from the core group of the state to in-charge of divisions, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs, all MLAs, district presidents, in-charges of districts, district general secretaries, state presidents and general secretaries of fronts, state conveners of cells, conveners of departments, all co-in-charges and spokespersons of the media department, all mayors, district panchayat presidents, vice-presidents, membership team of districts and presidents of municipalities," VD Sharma said.

Thereafter, workshops for the membership drive will be held at all districts on Aug 22, 23, and 24. Workshops in the divisions will be held on Aug 25, 26, and 27. Workshops will be organised at about 11,000 Shakti Kendras (party workers' units focused on strengthening the booths) on 28 and 29 August. Finally, on 31 August, workshops related to the membership drive will be organised simultaneously at all 64,871 booths of the state. BJP national general secretary Vinod Tawre has been made in-charge of the membership drive in Madhya Pradesh.
Membership will be through four methods. "People can join the party by giving a missed call on the number given by the party. People using smartphones can also join the party by scanning the party's QR code. Party membership can also be taken through the Namo app. Apart from this, membership of the party can also be taken through the website bjp.org," VD Sharma said. MSID:: 112661732 413 |
