Bhopalis make, give away masks for free

BHOPAL: Amid shortage of masks due to the coronavirus pandemic, Bhopalis have stepped up to make masks and distribute them to those in need free of cost.


These residents are also advising vendors, milkmen, grocers how to practice social distancing and maintain proper hygiene.

One such resident is

Kalpana Kekre

, who is making masks from t-shirts. She said, "Poor people are unable to afford masks and other hygiene essentials... Masks made of old t-shirts are washable and reusable. I distribute these to vegetable vendors, milkmen and other delivery personnel who have to go door-to-door for work." Similarly,

and his group of volunteers are also making masks for those in need. "We have supplied more than 2,000 masks since the lockdown was announced. Usually, we get requests from areas of

, Vidyasagar, Aradhana Nagar, Khajuri, BDA Colony, Katara Hills and others. Apart from this, we have also distributed hand sanitisers," said Kumar.

Manish Saxena

who has a workshop of bagmaking and decided to put the material used for bags to make masks. He said, "Fabrics that are used in making bags have adequate filtration properties, suitable for masks and offer protection from infections. In times like these, we should do what we can to help others."
