BHOPAL: A Mumbai conman offering to sell oximetres in bulk duped a Bhopal businessman of Rs 4.2 lakh.
SHO Hanumanganj Mahendra Singh Thakur said, victim Suresh Kalra, 55, runs a surgical equipment firm in Ghoda Nakkas Market. He told police that a known Mumbai businessman added him to a Whatsapp group of which other entrepreneurs were also members.
Kalra told police that in May, local dealers were unable to provide oximetres as the demand was very high, so he posted his demand for oximetres on the Whatsapp group.
One of the members of the group posted a mobile number for oximetre supplier.
When Kalra contacted the supplier he introduced himself as a Mumbai businessman and assured to supply the oximetres as soon as possible. As per their deal, the victim transferred Rs 4.2 lakh as advance paymentinto his firm’s bank account on May 15 through RTGS and an online payment wallet in two transactions. The accused promised to deliver the oximeters in three days but they were not delivered. After receiving the money, the accused stopped taking the victim’s calls.
