BHOPAL: Taking a strict stand after cops attacked students on the campus, the Barkatullah University (BU) made it clear on Thursday that police can't enter the premises without the permission of the registrar or dean, student welfare.
BU hostellers had alleged on Wednesday that cops thrashed them while they were protesting against the lack of water in hostels.
The NSUI has also demanded action against the police personnel.
Issuing the notice, BU registrar, Ajit Shrivastava, regretted the police attack on students. He categorically stated that police are allowed to enter the campus only after permission from proper authorities. He said the registrar and dean will have the right to give permission.
Sources said that vice-chancellor, Prof RJ Rao, has written a letter to police authorities to take proper action against the police personnel who allegedly attacked students. Sources added that the charge from security in-charge Yashwant Patel has been given to another officer. Kapil Soni, warden of the hostel, was also removed. Meanwhile, BU has also made arrangements of proper water in the hostel.
Incidentally, a video of the incident had gone viral on social media. As per reports, some students had gathered outside the residence of the V-C, who lives inside the campus, to protest against the lack of water in hostels for over a month.
"We were fed up of assurances. There is no water in the hostel for the last one month, and we have reminded BU authorities multiple times, but nothing was done," said a student.
As many as 100 students started the protest outside the V-C's residence on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, police personnel from Bag Sewaniya thana reached the spot. The students alleged that they were protesting peacefully when cops came suddenly and started attacking them. "Police came out of nowhere and started thrashing us," said a student.
