Balaghat election results 2024 live updates: BJP's Bharti Pardhi wins

NEW DELHI: Bharti Pardhi from the Bharatiya Janata Party emerged victorious with 712,660 votes, securing a lead of 174,512 votes over the runner-up. Samrat Ashok Singh Saraswar from the Indian National Congress came in second place with 538,148 votes, trailing the winner by 174,512 votes.

Kankar Munjare from the Bahujan Samaj Party secured the third position with 53,134 votes, falling short of the winner by 659,526 votes. Independent candidate Bhuvan Singh Koram obtained 13,074 votes, lagging behind the winner by 699,586 votes. Nandlal Uikey from the Gondvana Gantantra Party received 12,422 votes, trailing the winner by 700,238 votes.

D.L. Maneshwar from the Peoples Party of India (Democratic) secured 10,017 votes, falling behind the winner by 702,643 votes. Independent candidates Dhanendra Dev Pawar Banwari Seth and Mahadev Nagdeve obtained 7,245 and 7,192 votes, respectively, trailing the winner by 705,415 and 705,468 votes. Rajkumar Nageshwer, another independent candidate, received 6,728 votes, lagging behind the winner by 705,932 votes.

Mohan Raut from the Rashtravadi Bharat Party secured 3,542 votes, falling short of the winner by 709,118 votes. Priyanka Sanjay Bhandarkar from the Bhartiya Shakti Chetna Party obtained 2,926 votes, trailing the winner by 709,734 votes. Advocate Satyaprakash Shulke (Lodhi) from the Madhya Pradesh Jan Vikas Party received 1,932 votes, lagging behind the winner by 710,728 votes. Independent candidate Dileep Chhabda secured 1,750 votes, falling short of the winner by 710,910 votes. The "None of the Above" option received 11,510 votes, trailing the winner by 701,150 votes.

Voting for the Balaghat seat took place in the first phase on April 19, 2024. The constituency, which falls under the General category, comprises eight Legislative Assembly segments, including Baihar (ST), Lanji, Paraswada, Balaghat, Waraseoni, Katangi in Balaghat district and Barghat (ST) and Seoni in Seoni district.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has dominated the Balaghat Lok Sabha seat in recent years, with Dr. Dhal Singh Bisen winning the seat in both 2014 and 2019. However, the BJP has fielded a new candidate, Dr. Bharti Pardhi, for the 2024 election. The Indian National Congress (INC) has nominated Samrat Saraswat as its candidate. Other candidates include independent ones like Bhuvan Singh Koram, Kankar Munjare from Bahujan Samaj Party, etc.

In 2019, Dr. Dhal Singh Bisen of the BJP party secured victory with 692,859 votes. The runner-up, Madhu Bhagat of the INC party, was defeated by a margin of 240,265 votes.

In 2014, Bodhsingh Bhagat of the BJP party won with 479,123 votes. The runner-up, Hina Likhiram Kawre of the INC party, was defeated by a margin of 94,941 votes.

Balaghat, with an 80% rural population, is heavily dependent on agriculture. Farmers' issues, such as the lack of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their produce, inadequate irrigation facilities, and crop destruction by wildlife, are major concerns in the constituency.

The BJP has held the Balaghat seat since 1998, but no MP has served twice. The 2024 election in Balaghat is expected to be a closely contested affair, with both the BJP and INC vying for the support of the electorate.
