Madhya Pradesh murder: Man dies after throat slit in public in Jabalpur, sparks panic

JABALPUR: A 25-year-old auto driver was brutally murdered at ISBT Square here on Sunday evening, triggering panic in the busy transport hub. The assailant slit the victim's throat with a sharp-edged weapon before fleeing, police said.

The victim, Pawan, a resident of Rajiv Nagar, was standing near ISBT Square around 5:30 pm, waiting for passengers. An unidentified youth approached him and struck up a conversation. Moments later, the exchange escalated into a heated argument, during which the attacker suddenly pulled out a sharp weapon and slashed Pawan's throat.

The attack was so severe that the victim's neck was nearly severed, leaving him critically injured and bleeding profusely on the road.

On receiving information, police rushed to the spot and immediately shifted Pawan to the medical college hospital. Doctors, however, declared him dead on arrival.

Preliminary information suggests that the two were known to each other and were once friends, but fell out over an unresolved dispute. Investigators believe the murder was the result of personal enmity, though the exact motive is yet to be ascertained. Sources said the accused was believed to be from the same locality as the victim.

City superintendent of police (Madhotal) BS Gadhoria said the entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the area. "We have secured the CCTV footage and are analysing it to identify and trace the accused," he said.

A murder case was registered and five police teams were constituted to track down the suspect. Police said raids were being conducted at multiple locations, and efforts were on to establish the accused's movements before and after the crime.

The killing, carried out at a crowded intersection during evening hours, has raised concerns over public safety.
