BHOPAL

: To hone extra-curricular talent of students from government schools and bring them into limelight, programme 'Anugoonj' commenced on Wednesday.

Organised by the state education department, 12 artistes of the city mentored the students to make the two-day event a success. On the occasion, education minister Prabhuram Choudhary said, "Extra-curricular activities teach children coordination, discipline, and time management. Such activities help in building their personalities and make them more confident, allowing children to openly express themselves before people. Art is important for overall development of students."

Following which, students presented

Odissi

dance, recreating popular mythological stories through beautiful movements and expressions.

One of the mentors Shweta Devendra who trained students for a fusion performance along with others said, "These children are quick learners that pushed us to work even harder. Preparing performances to be presented on such a big platform is not easy and it was a new learning experience for me as well." Performances shifted to folk with 'Mayurbhanj Chau', showcasing narrative episodes of the epics Ramayana and

Mahabharata

In Swar Nandi, students traced the musical journey of different genres in a comprehensive composition, whereas in Panchnaad, students presented a compilation of different musical instruments playing a common symphony, making the air melodious. The event concluded with 'Ekakaar', offering a triple treat of Kathak, Bharatanatyam and contemporary dance to the audience Speaking to TOI, principal secretary of school education, Rashmi Arun Shami saidI that if the event is a success in Bhopal, it may be made into an annual event for other districts as well.
