Abattoir will be built in Adampur Chhavani itself, says Alok Sharma

Bhopal: Mayor Alok Sharma was happy that though he had to personally appear before the NGT bench for hearing on the slaughterhouse shifting issue, yet he was able to convince the judges to allow the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) maintain status quo as far as capacity of the slaughterhouse was concerned.

“A top urban administration department officer was interested in setting up of a huge slaughterhouse, which was planned not only to cater to the local demand but even for meat export. At least, it would not happen now and local people won’t lose jobs”, Sharma said, while informally talking to media after attending the NGT hearing here on Tuesday.

Sharma was ambiguous when he told the NGT judges that the BMC general council has decided to shift the slaughterhouse outside the city as directed by the tribunal, but while replying to a query on the site of the new slaughterhouse, he was candid. “It would be located at Adampur Chhavani itself, where else? Our government had allotted 10 acre land for the purpose at Adampur Chhavani. The land has already been demarcated and once contract is awarded, construction would begin on the site for the new slaughterhouse”, Sharma said.

The mayor clarified by saying, “In the master plan of 2005, the location of the slaughterhouse is Adampur Chhavani”. BJP MLA Rameshwar Sharma has been insisting that the master plan of 2005 proposed a new slaughterhouse in an industrial area. But, according to the mayor that industrial area was Adampur Chhavani itself. tnn
