INDORE: Nine people including five children and three women were killed and several others were injured when a cement laden trailer overturned on a van in Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh early morning on Wednesday.
Police said that the accident occurred around 3 am near Kalyanpura village, close to Bhavpura. Among the deceased were four children, three women, and two men. Two others, including a five-year-old child, sustained critical injuries and have been referred to a hospital for treatment.
All the victims were residents of Shivgarh Mahuda in Meghnagar Tehsil. The deceased have been identified as Mukesh Khaped, 40, his wife Sawli, 35, their son Vinod, 16, and daughter Payal, 12, Madhi Bamnia, 38, Vijay Bamnia, 14, Kanta Bamnia, 14, Ragini Bamnia, 9, and Akli Parmar, 35. The injured have been identified as Payal Parmar, 19 and Ashu Bamnia, 5.
The Thandla and Meghnagar police teams arrived at the scene along with ambulances, and the injured and deceased were taken to the civil hospitals in Thandla and Meghnagar.
Jhabua SP Padam Vilochan Shukla said that a trailer loaded with cement overturned and landed directly on the van near Meghnagar, causing immediate fatalities. The driver of the trailer fled the scene and remains absconding.
