JABALPUR: Four persons were stabbed to death in a violent clash between two families, triggered by a gambling dispute, on the outskirts of Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh on Monday.

Multiple suspects have been rounded up for questioning after the bloody clash in Timri village, around 12km from Jabalpur and 315km east of Bhopal.

There is tension in the region. Local residents staged a protest by blocking Patan-Jabalpur Road, and additional police forces have been deployed. Senior police officers are on the scene to manage the situation.


According to additional SP (rural) Suryakant Sharma, the families involved - Sahus and Pathak-Dubey - had a history of rivalry. Members of the Sahu family attacked five family members of the Pathak and Dubey families with swords and sticks around 9.30am on Monday.

Three people were killed on the spot and one more died of his injuries in hospital.

Families conflict over gambling
The deceased have been identified as Satish Pathak, Manish Pathak, Aniket Dubey and his brother Sameer Dubey. Two others, Vipin and Mukesh Dubey, were severely injured. Police have filed a murder case.

Ganesh Pathak, father of the deceased Pathak brothers, said the families had been in conflict over gambling. Things turned violent when a young man named Kalu began causing a drunken ruckus, triggering a confrontation between the families and the murderous attack.
