Bhopal: A father and son were among three who died of asphyxiation when they entered a well to repair the motor in Sagar on Thursday.
The tragic deaths happened in Marhi Pipariya village. Police said Khilan Lodhi, 65, his son Netraj, 25, and Simaria resident
Sunil Patel, 25, entered a 60-ft-deep well in Khilan’s field on Thursday afternoon. The water level had risen due to incessant rainfall and had submerged the motor.
Khilan was first to descend into the well with a rope to start removing the motor. Suddenly, he stopped responding to the calls of Netraj and Sunil. Netraj scrambled to save his father but he too suffocated. Sunil then descended into the well to save them, but he also fell unconscious and drowned.
After a while, people realised the trio was missing and alerted police. A large crowd gathered. Some of them wanted to enter the well to save them but were stopped by the elders. An SDRF team sped to the village from Sagar, 85km away. They managed to reach the three men three hours later, but they were long dead. Police have registered a case. tnn
