18-year-old dies by suicide at rehab centre

Bhopal: An 18-year-old boy died allegedly by suicide at a de-addiction centre in Awadhpuri area after hanging himself inside the bathroom. An employee of the de-addiction centre spotted him hanging from the noose on Wednesday evening and rushed him to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead after examination. Awadhpuri police registered a case and handed over the body to the family after post-mortem examination.

According to police, S Chandu, 18, son of Shankar, was a resident of Anna Nagar. He was addicted to intoxicants, following which his family admitted him to a de-addiction centre near Awadhpuri police station for treatment. He had been staying at the centre for nearly a month.

Police said that on Wednesday evening, Chandu allegedly hanged himself inside the bathroom of the centre. As soon as an employee noticed him hanging, he brought him down and took him to hospital, but he had already died.
