14-year RI for rapist, woman aide

BHOPAL

: A special POCSO court on Thursday sentenced a man and his woman acquaintance to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment for rape of a minor girl and aiding her

male companion

to carry out the crime respectively. The rape survivor was known to the two and called them “Mama” and “Mausi”.


According to public relation officer in district prosecution department Sudha Bhadoriya, a 14-year-old girl had lodged a complaint at Nishatpura police station on April 1, 2017, that she occasionally visited house of Rita, alias Reshma, whom she called “Mausi’ in Karond locality and the accused R K Mahale, 43, used to come there to meet her “Mausi”. In course of time, she started calling him “Mama”.

On March 29, 2017, Mahale came to meet Rita in the afternoon. Rita was not home. He offered the victim a bottle of

soft drink

and later raped her. When she disclosed the incident to her “Mausi”, she didn’t respond. Following that, whenever Mahale arrived at Rita’s house in the presence of the survivor, Rita would leave the house and Mahale would rape the girl. She told the police that Mahale raped her five to six times and he was aided in the crime by Rita.

Police after registering a case against the two investigated the matter and filed a chargesheet in the special POCSO court. Following trial, special POCSO judge

, while holding the accused guilty, sentenced Mahale to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment under section 376 (2) of the IPC and also sentenced co-accused Rita under section 120 (b) and 376 of the IPC for aiding the crime.
