JABALPUR: A 12-year-old tribal girl was gangraped by three men in Jabalpur district after one of them promised to give her a lift to her relative’s home on Sunday night. The three accused have been arrested.
Bargi CSP Priyanka Shukla said the girl knew one of the accused for around a month. He lives in the same village as her maternal aunt. On Sunday evening, the 12-year-old set off to visit her aunt in a nearby village, around 30km from Jabalpur.
The acquaintance offered to give her a lift, and she agreed, said the CSP. Unknown to her, two of his friends were trailing them on motorcycle.
In a jungle on the way, the accused stopped the motorcycle and two of them took turns to rape her while the third youth helped them in the crime, said Shukla. “The accused threatened to kill her if she spoke to anyone about the rape. Then, they dropped her at her aunt’s place,” said the CSP.
The survivor returned home late at night and confided in her parents. They immediately went to the police, who registered a complaint and sent her for medical examination. The three suspects have been booked under IPC and Pocso Act. The girl is out of danger, the CSP said.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
