BENGALURU: A 20-year-old youth who stole bikes in the guise of a customer on
OLX
and later sold them on the same platform has been arrested.
Police have cracked six cases of vehicle-lifting with the arrest of Manjunath Hegde, a resident of Sunkadakatte, west Bengaluru. Six bikes worth Rs 12 lakh were recovered from him.
Cops said Hegde would create a fake profile on the online buying and selling platform and approach bike sellers. He would meet them and take the bike for a test ride before speeding away. He targeted sellers offering high-end bikes like

Then he would create fake registration certificates (RC) of the stolen vehicles and post ads on Olx to sell the bikes at market price. He would dispose of the sim card after every vehicle theft to avoid detection.
Police said Manjunath, who's from a family of modest means - his father worked as an autorickshaw driver and mother was a garment factory employee - failed PU and soon took to gambling and betting on cricket matches. He lost huge amounts of money and started stealing bikes to make a quick buck.
