BENGALURU: A 21-year-old man, who fell from the third floor of a residential building in Peenya on Saturday night while trying to escape from policemen, succumbed to injuries at a hospital on Wednesday night.
Police identified the deceased as Ravi, a daily-wage worker and resident of Peenya. Ravi and his two friends were smoking in an unlit area near SRS Junction around 9pm when beat policemen spotted them.
The three tried to escape from the spot as the cops attempted to nab them, suspecting that they were drug peddlers.
Ravi went to the terrace of a three-floor building and attempted to jump to the next building. But he slipped and fell to the ground, sustaining severe injuries.
The public and police rushed him to a nearby private hospital, where he was under treatment, till he passed away around 10pm on Wednesday. Police have registered a case of unnatural death based on a complaint filed by his mother Gowramma.
According to sources, senior officers had instructed Peenya police to increase patrolling on Saturday, following the Maasika Janasamparka Divas that was held at Peenya police station.
