Bengaluru: A 23-year-old youth walking near his house in Nagasandra on Feb 5 night was attacked by his neighbour's pet dog.
Naveen (name changed), a resident of Havanuru Layout in Nagasandra in North Bengaluru alleged that the dog was not muzzled and bit him on his left ankle from behind around 9pm near his house, when he had gone out for a walk.
According to Naveen's complaint to Bagalagunte police, the pet parent Narasimhamurthy was walking his dog but had not kept it on leash and it attacked him. "When I questioned him, Narasimhamurthy told me it was my mistake to walk carelessly without watching out for his dog. He even refused to take me to the hospital," Naveen told TOI. Naveen does not know the dog's breed.
Naveen, an engineering graduate, secured a job in a private firm and was to join work this week, but has to now extend his joining date to next month, based on his doctor's advice, he said.
Naveen and his family told Narasimhamurthy to bear the treatment cost, amounting to around Rs 30,000. "Initially, he agreed, but after a few hours, he refused to pay, claiming he has proof that I stepped on the dog. He told police that he has CCTV footage to prove it. But when we insisted to show the footage, he refused," he said. The pet parent does not even know if his dog is vaccinated for rabies, he claimed.
A senior police officer said, "Since it is a bailable offence, we will be serving notice to Narasimhamurthy and further necessary action will be taken."
