Bengaluru: Young Orions overcame a stiff challenge from Bank of Baroda 78-76 to win the State ‘A’ division league basketball tournament for men and bag the NC Parappa memorial rolling trophy at the Sree Kanteerava stadium here on Thursday.For Orions, who were leading 41-37 at half-time, Aaron top-scored with 27 points followed by Gautham who netted 21. Anil Kumar topped the charts for BoB with 24 points as the bankmen took the final to the wire. The ‘B’ Division final also saw an exciting contest in which JSC defeated Vivek’s SC 93-81. Bangalore Vanguards took the title in the ‘C’ Division, beating YMMA 98-86 in the title clash. 9 dists of 2 divisions still rainfall deficit

Despite recent showers, nine districts in Indore and Ujjain divisions of Madhya Pradesh are still experiencing rainfall deficits. Alirajpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Dhar, and Jhabua in Indore division, as well as Mandsaur, Shajapur, Agar-Malwa, and Neemuch in Ujjain division, are all facing deficits ranging from 20% to 36%. However, the meteorological department has forecasted another spell of rainfall from September 15 to 21, which may help cover the deficiency.

Alarm bells: Nagpur reports over 50% of dengue cases in division

Nagpur district in India has treated over 50% of dengue cases reported in the Nagpur division, which includes several other districts. The spike in cases is due to the large urban population in Nagpur. As of August 31, the district has recorded 486 dengue cases, with one death. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation's negligence in preventive measures has contributed to the increase in cases. The dengue infection rate in other districts within the division has historically been low. Citizens have complained about the lack of preventive measures by the NMC.

12-hour bandh in Lakhanpur on Sept 22 to press for block division

The Lakhanpur Block Nagarik Parishad (LBNP) in Jharsuguda has demanded the division of the Lakhanpur block into three divisions to improve governance. The LBNP submitted a memorandum to the Jharsuguda collector and SP, and has also called for a 12-hour bandh on September 22 to press for their demand. The block comprises 33 panchayats and is one of the largest in Odisha. The LBNP has been demanding the division for decades but the government has not taken any action.
