Bengaluru: Young chess players from Bengaluru, led by Pratitee Bordoloi, finished atop the podium at the National U-9 chess championship in Indore recently.
Pratitee Bordoloi won the gold medal among girls, winning eight games and drawing three to finish with 9.5 points from 11 rounds. A fourth-grade student of Shishya BEML Public School, Bengaluru, she claimed 76 ELO points in this meet. Aadya Gowda, who too is in the fourth grade at the Cambridge International School, Varthur, bagged the silver. Aadya tied with Aadya Ranganath of Karnataka and Aahna Gulati of Haryana on 8.5 points but finished second thanks to a better tie-break score. Aadya drew with Pratitee and lost to Aadya Ranganath in the fifth and sixth rounds.
Aadya Ranganath, a student of Vidya Niketan School, Hebbal, won eight games and drew one to claim the bronze medal.
Aarav Sarbalia took the silver in the Open category with 10 points from 11 rounds. The Harvest International School student won nine games and drew two. Aarav tied with Madhvendra Pratap Sharma of Madhya Pradesh, but the latter prevailed due to a better tie-break score.
