Bengaluru shocker: Woman sets self, 4-year-old daughter on fire after phone fight with husband
BENGALURU: A 29-year-old domestic help poured kerosene on herself and her four-year-old daughter after a fight with her husband over the phone at their home in Krishnappanagar, Sanjaynagar, Thursday. Seetalakshmi G died the same night and her daughter Srushti G succumbed to burns Friday morning.
According to police, neighbours heard Srushti shouting for help from a window when Seetalakshmi set herself and her on fire around 7pm. They broke open the main door of their house and shifted the duo to the burns ward of Victoria Hospital.
Preliminary investigation suggests Seetalakshmi was involved in a long dispute with her spouse, Govind Bahaddur, who returned to their hometown in Nepal along with their six-year-old son a few months ago.
"They came to Bengaluru seven years back. Govind worked as a security guard or a daily-wage worker in different places. The couple used to fight regularly. A few months ago, Govind returned to Nepal with their son. Seetalakshmi called her husband numerous times, requesting him to return, but is said to have told her to return to Nepal instead. The couple again argued over the phone Thursday evening shortly before the tragedy," a police officer said.
Woman rescued after suicide bid over marriage refusal
A 22-year-old woman, who tried to end her life by consuming sleeping pills outside the women's police station in Ramanagara, Bengaluru South district, after her lover refused to marry her, was rescued and hospitalised Thursday.
The survivor, a resident of Gattigunda village in Kanakapura, left a note accusing Arun Nayak of Terigedoddi village of cheating her on the pretext of marriage. Finding her in a semi-conscious state, police shifted her to a nearby hospital, and her condition is stable now.
"According to the woman, Nayak was in love with her for 18 months and promised to marry her. He also developed a physical relationship with her. However, he distanced himself recently, and she made futile attempts to contact him and his family members," a police officer said.
