Bengaluru: A woman with a rowdy record was on Thursday booked for attempt to murder after she allegedly attacked another woman who had borrowed money from her, but declined to pay exorbitant interest.
Yeshaswini Mahesh, 35, a resident of JP Nagar and moneylender, attacked and injured daily-wage labourer Thayamma, 45, with a blunt object. Thayamma had borrowed Rs 1 lakh from her, Subramanyapura police said.
Yeshaswini was notorious for lending money on the basis of 'meter baddi', as Bengaluru's notorious business of moneylending is known.
She charged 30% interest on short-term loans, and was allegedly known for her Shylockian ways in lending money and raising demands for exorbitant interest.
Police said Yeshaswini, a listed rowdy with Basavanagudi police station since 2012, has two children who are in school. Her husband Mahesh is also a rowdy-sheeter with JP Nagar police.
Thayamma, who had borrowed money for an operation a few months ago, was admitted to a private hospital for treatment. Her condition is normal, police said.
Yeshaswini allegedly demanded 30% interest and Thayamma told her she could not pay such a huge amount, police said. When Yeshaswini pressured Thayamma, the latter said she would complain to police. A fuming Yeshaswini allegedly attacked Thayamma with a blunt object.
By the time the Thayamma's complaint reached police and they began looking for Yeshaswini, the accused had been admitted to hospital, police said.
"She is in a private hospital with a complaint of chest pain. We will arrest her in a couple of days after getting her doctor's permission," police added.
