Woman, lover held for killing husband in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: Police have arrested a woman and her boyfriend for allegedly murdering the former’s husband to ensure they could continue their relationship. Three others who assisted the duo in committing the crime have also landed in police net.
The accused are Ranjitha, 23, of Channasandra, her friend Ganesh, 26, and his friends Shivananda, Sharath and Deepak.The men are all from of Rajarajeshwarinagar and Banashankari. The gang allegedly hacked Ranjitha’s husband Arun Kumar, 34, a resident of Channasandra and a hotelier, to death.
The gang allegedly murdered Kumar at Gattigerepalya near NICE Road on June 28. The incident came to light the next morning after a passerby noticed the body around 7am. Police rushed to the spot and found nothing to identify the deceased. But they circulated the photo of the body, which helped them identify the deceased as Kumar, who ran a hotel — Gowdru Beegara Oota, Naati Style — on Dr Vishnuvardhan Road in Uttarahalli.
Police suspected foul play while recording the statements of Ranjitha, who said her husband had taken loans from private financiers to run the hotel and had failed repay them as he had incurred a huge loss in the business. Probe revealed that Ranjitha’s friend Ganesh was behind the murder and cops picked both up for questioning. Soon, the two confessed to their crime.
Police said Ganesh would supply mineral water bottles to Kumar’s hotel and had even lent Kumar a few lakhs. Meanwhile, Ganesh began an affair with Ranjitha. Kumar came to know about it and warned them not to continue the relationship. He is said to have even beaten Ranjitha up over the same issue.
