'She was vomiting’: Mother kills child by feeding her poisonous tea in Bengaluru; frequent fights with husband over financial issues

BENGALURU: A 24-year-old woman allegedly killed her 20-month-old daughter by feeding her poison-mixed tea and then tried to kill herself by consuming the same tea at Thigalarapalya, northwest Bengaluru.

The deceased infant is Charvi, while the mother is Chandrika K, a native of Koratagere in Tumakuru.

Police said Chandrika was married to Lokesh, 41, and the couple had two children, a six-year-old son and Charvi. Lokesh works in a garments factory and has no permanent job.

According to Lokesh, his wife often fought with him over financial issues and blamed him for not taking care of their children.

On July 29, Chandrika called him at 3pm and insisted he come home immediately.

When he rushed back, he found her vomiting. Chandrika said she mixed poison in tea and fed their daughter, and she also consumed it.

Charvi died while undergoing treatment in hospital, while Chandrika is recovering.
