BENGALURU: Director-general and inspector general of police Praveen Sood on Monday said following chief minister Basavaraj Bommai’s direction, a departmental inquiry would be held into the death of police inspector Nandeesha, 42.

He died of a heart attack a week after he was suspended for allegedly allowing a bar and restaurant in KR Puram to run beyond permitted hours.

The death had triggered a verbal altercation between leaders of the BJP and Congress. While MTB Nagaraj, minister of small-scale industries and municipal administration, said Nandeesha’s suspension was a harsh and unwanted step taken by the city’s top cop CH Pratap Reddy, the Congress alleged that ‘payment posting’ was behind Nandeesha’s death and demanded a judicial investigation.

Speaking to reporters during a passing-out parade at Karnataka State Reserve Police grounds in Koramangala, Sood said: “A detailed inquiry will be carried out into the death and other issues. We’ll clear all the doubts. The report on the investigation will be submitted to the government in due time.”
