Water polo, diving Nationals from today

Bengaluru: For the first time in 75 years, the National aquatic championships have been bifurcated with water polo and diving being held as standalone Nationals. The first edition of the revamped National water polo and diving championships will get under way here on Wednesday with the Karnataka Swimming Association hosting the event which runs until June 25.The participation in this edition has swelled with 12 men and nine women’s water polo teams in the fray. In diving, 54 divers from nine states will be seen in action. While the water polo events will be held at the Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre, the diving competition will be at the SAI, South Centre here.Speaking about the event, Gopal B Hosur, president of KSA, said, “The Karnataka Swimming Association, under the guidance of SFI, is excited and happy to host the championships.”Synchronized diving SET TO MAKE debutSynchronized diving is being introduced this year on a trial basis. The competition will be held in the synchronized 3 metre springboard category for men, women and mixed categories.
